You guys! This stuff is seriously like magic in a jar! I wouldn’t make a post if I truly didn’t believe in this. I mean really…Rice water?? The stuff I normally don’t think twice about and if there is any left it goes down the drain? Yeah, well that won’t be happening in this house again.
The next time you find yourself cooking up some rice, don’t throw away any leftover water!
Rice water has been used by Asian woman as their secret for their gorgeous hair and flawless skin. It has soooo many benefits: cleanses, tones, tightens pores, brightens and softens skin, lightens scars, helps damaged skin caused by the sun or aging, reduces redness and inflammation from blemishes, treats acne and eczema, helps irritates skin, soothes burns and sunburns, repairs and conditions hair, moisturizes skin. The benefits are pretty much endless.
It also contains many vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. Another amazing thing about it is it can be used for all skin and hair types because it is incredibly gentle. You can either make a concentrated version or the less concentrated version for daily use as a toner. I can speak from personal experience, I love how this makes my skin look and feel. It helped reduce the appearance of my acne scars, tightened my pores, and left my skin feeling smooth and moisturized.
Toner: apply a layer of rice water with cotton ball to face, let dry
Cleanser: apply a heavier layer with a cotton ball and massage into skin for a few minutes, then rinse with warm water.
Moisturizing mask: Before bed…Use the more concentrated version if you can, apply to face, let dry, and add a layer or so on top. Wash off in the morning
Exfoliator: Use along with some grains of rice and rub into skin
Body: rub all over body as a moisturizer
Pour some into the tub and Soak ( you can add a cup of rice to the tub while you soak as well)
Hair: In the shower after shampooing, rinse hair with rice water, let it sit for 5 min then rinse with regular water. Do this once or twice a week.
Hair mask: Pour rice water onto hair, leave on for 30 min. Wash as normal. (Helps grow long silky hair.)
How to make:
Grab half a cup of rice (any rice works but I prefer jasmine)
Rinse with filtered water to remove any dirt and impurities
Then you can either pour it into a bowl with filtered water and let it sit for about 30min
Or boil like cooking it but make sure to add extra water to have plenty leftover water once it boils for a few minutes. ( this is a more concentrated version)
Store milky water in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days then toss, if you have any left, and make a new batch.
Notes: Rather than throwing any of the water away, take a bath with the rest or rinse it through your hair! Don’t waste the gold!
Give rice water a try and comment with your results!
