It’s officially October! Which means it’s time to bring out all of your fabulous fall decor! Fall is probably my favorite time of year. The weather is amazing and the trees are just stunning! And honestly, who doesn’t like decorating!?
I’ve been seeing these gorgeous farmhouse pumpkins and rather than spending a ton of money on buying a bunch of them, I wanted to share a super easy way to get these babies without spending an arm and a leg.
I got the paints I used at Walmart for $.50 a piece… yea.. foreal that’s it.. They have some great colors! I chose to stay with this color scheme but of course, you can choose any color you want. It’s best to layer your colors to give it a more realistic look and it just makes them look better, so keep that in mind when choosing your colors.
Paint ( I used matte acrylic craft paint)
Dollar Tree Pumpkins ( All shapes and sizes)
Hot Glue Gun
Pull the stem out and paint the first layer of paint on the pumpkin.
This is what it looks like once it dries.
Add the second color on top. I put light streaks of the first layer into the creases to give it more dimensions, and then while it was still wet, went back with the second color to blend it in.
This is where your creativity comes into play. Mess around with the colors and see what you like.
I left the one above as is once I blended the colors.
For the pumpkin below, I used a cream base color and topped it with a mossy green color, then did the same step as above. To give this pumpkin a different texture, in sections, lightly paint the first layered color on top and while its wet dab a paper towel on the pumpkin to blend it and give it a neat texture.
I left this pumpkin as is, and glued a stick in place of the stem.
Here are a few of the pumpkins I made. I plan on making a ton more to put them all over the house. Seriously, I love the way they came out and I especially love how inexpensive it was to get this look!
I highly suggest just playing around with the colors, if you don’t like the way something turned out just simply paint on top of it! You really can’t mess this up! You can do light undertones or dark. Same with the creases. Try out different textures too!
